Solid bronze bearings are turned to size from continuously cast bronze. The bearings have high load-bearing capacity and are resistant to high temperatures. As standard, the bearings are lubricated with grease or oil but are also available with graphite or plastic lubricating pins, thus giving the bearings self-lubricating properties.
THN has a wide standard range of Solid bronze bearings, both with (OILES) and without (JM1-15) lubricating pins. This range comprises bearings with an internal diameter of 5 to 200 mm and is made from RG5 bronze. The standard material for the bearings with lubricating pins is CuZnAl5 aluminium bronze. Various other alloys are also available.
Besides the standard range, bearings can be supplied on request with special properties such as:
The most important properties of cast bronze slide bearings are:
| JM1-15 |
- Conventional bearing material for lubricated applications - Suitable for oil and grease lubrication |
| OILES |
- Maintenance-free bearings for heavy applications - Extremely good performance under heavy loads |
The suitability of cast bronze slide bearings is shown below:
| Conditions | JM1-15 | OILES |
| Dry | Not suitable | Good |
| Oil | Good | Good |
| Grease | Good | Good |
| Water | Not suitable | Good |
| Process fluid | Not suitable | Reasonable |
Permitted loads for the cast bronze slide bearings are as follows:
| Mechanical value | JM1-15 RG5 / CuSn5ZnPb |
OILES CuZn25Al5 |
| PV (N/mm²·m/s) | 2,8 | 3,34 |
| P max. (N/mm²) static | 45 | 250 |
| P max (N/mm²) dynamic | 25 | 100 |
| V max. (m/s) | 0,30** | 0,25 |
| Maximum temperature | + 250°C | + 250°C |
| Minimum temperature | * | - 40°C |
* Depending on the lubricant used.
** Grease lubrication can be used at speeds up to 15m/min; above that, continuous oil lubrication is used. Higher speeds are possible if sufficiently lubricated for hydrodynamic lubrication.
